Thanks.
It also has D and 1942 on the barrel, and obviously (now) its aM39.

Now i can have an excuse to hunt down the appropriate accessories and accoutrements.  :)

It actually looks just like Luke2236's from here http://sks-files.com/index.php?topic=3034.0 with a 51xxx serial instead of his 56xxx

Nice, I love the M39s!  From the color of the finish I'm guessing it's in a post-WWII square-fingered spliced stock. Probably has a nice fresh (well, 60+ years old) hot blue.  thumb1

You would be correct on both counts.  yes4

I'm just gonna ask here instead of google, what is the right sling for this, assuming they are not unicorn poop rare.

There are a lot of different types of Finnish Mosin slings. Fortunately, some of them aren't rare at all. Cloth or leather available for the M39 but I usually see cloth.

The bolt has a backwards R where normally a star or bow/arrow would be.
What does the backwards R signify?  All the regular mosin places dont mention it but strangely its only seen in pictures of Finnish mosins.

Cyrillic "ya", one of dozens of mystery marks.

With a Finn you'll likely see a bolt with a complete mix of early or late Tula and Izhevsk, Sestroryetsk, Remington, NEW, Chatellerault and Sako parts.

I think 'mystery mark' is going to be good enough for me, i have about 5 hours of internet time into it so far and thats the best answer going.
It does have the imperial eagle stamp too, so I assume that means it was made before 1917?

Yes, 1917 or prior. If you take it out of the stock, the date and maker of the receiver will (usually) be on the receiver tang.

Some of these things can make you wonder... I have a well travelled Finn M91. The receiver is 1894 Chatellerault, it has the Russian Imperial Eagle with a Artillerie Zeugs Fabrik "AZF" Austro-Hungarian arsenal property, then it has a Finnish property [SA] stamp with a '42 Tikka barrel .

So.. it's gone from being made in France to serving in the Imperial Russian military, got captured by Austria, possibly used there, and sold off to Finland and used there, and import stamped in the US.

Nice one! Just need a sling for her, as the VKTs weren't issued with bayonets as I understand. I grabbed a M39 sling off ebay for my 42 VKT and am very happy with it.

yes, i need a sling, and probably a SA marked oil bottle for the 'shelf of useless accessories i really didnt need to buy'.  I did look for bayonets, but i dont have that many kidneys to sell to be able to afford one.

hahaha yeah they're a uh bit expensive. But, like I said I don't believe VKTs were ever issued with them. I think if I remember correctly it was just SKY rifles that were issued with bayonets.

Does anyone know what the Finnish cleaning kit is supposed to be for this?
There seems to be wood handle screwdriver version and other variations.  All i know for sure is a brass cleaning rod extension is a key component.
