Check this krazy Polytech out!
« on: July 29, 2016, 09:40:13 PM »
Picked this up today....it is a Polytech AKS SP. (Caught up in the import nonsense) Folding bayonet removed and mounts ground down. On this one though.....some previous owner took the time to very nicely sculpt the remaining mount down to accept the type 1 bayonet.  I didn't realize that until I got it home! So now my dilemma is......replace the u/f bayo assembly or leave it alone?? Yes, of course while adhering to 922....blah,blah,blah.....😂

Nice pick up  :o  thumb1

I like the Polish bayonet arrangement. I cast one vote for leave it.

Took this rifle shooting yesterday. Put approx. 150-200 rounds through it......I'm in love! The stark difference between most SKS triggers and this trigger is night and day to say the least. Very short reset distance and so damn smooth. I didn't get a pic of the target (50 yards) due to range design (spotting scopes only, no trips down the lanes) but even with my sorry eyes.....I feel pretty confident....:) It was a blast!!  :)

Good stuff!  I haven't had the pleasure of shooting a Chinese AK.

Nice! Are you going to have the Spiker FSB swapped off by a builder/gunsmith somewhere, or are you going to do it yourself?  I'm looking at a somewhat close to yours-type project, but I've never done a FSB R&R. And I SURE don't want to start practicing that skill on that job!

Pat, I don't know if you're going to keep this one or throw it to GB. If it's the latter, give me a heads up, if you don't mind.

Yeah, if you take it off, bobbing the extra from the back makes it a perfect deban piece for a non-spiker MAK.

It looks like you are going to need a spike cut lower hand guard too.

Going to do it myself. Have a HD puller a machinist made for me off of eBay. I've done 3 or 4 sks fsb's and this isn't much different.  The NOS spiker fsb isn't drilled yet.......so Whoo-hooo on the pucker factor!! The plan is to keep it for the foreseeable future....lol....but you know how that goes......:) I'll take pictures as I go.....

Got er' done today......and I don't ever want to do it again.  Talk about nerve wracking....damn blind holes! The new fsb  had two pilot holes started on one side and that was it. Of course I didn't have a 3mm drill bit....so went and bought a couple 9/32......because nobody else had 3mm bits either. Took my time.....was as patient as I could be, but overall not a bad result. It's not perfect,  but pretty close.

Starter punch and drifter punch.....ask me how I ended up with a starter punch....lol.

Pins out!

Locking plunger and spring that are retained by the front pin.

Puller assembly purchased from eBay  (3rd try by the seller...very beefy!)

Success!

Cleaned up and re blued.

Holes through and straight....

Almost there!!

And.......Ta-Da!!

Pretty happy overall.....almost feels a little anti climatic.......lol.

That looks great!  And doncha know, that AKS is probably happy to be back in the configuration it left "the old country" in.  Now you just need to find a MAK90 with the underfolder receiver, and do this trick one more time for a "double folder" sister rifle to this one!

Nice job Pat! Looks perfect to me. Love the looks of the Spiker AKS!

I have a NHM-90 with the underfolder receiver, still NIB. This one is in .223. (I bought all the Chinese steel .223 mags for it that I'd ever need) I already have the folding stock assembly with hardware. I'm thinking seriously about making one of the "double folders" now that I've seen this.

Thanks for posting this Pat!

Next time...  Use a penny between the muzzle and the puller tool.  This will marr the penny and not the muzzle.

Looks like you now have a starting punch because you broke one.  Lol.  I have a few myself.   Looks good.    thumb1

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

No way!! This is my keeper! She is such a sweet shooter......working on a Mak 90 underfolder next....seller included an original folding stock.......I'm either going to bob the fsb that I pulled off of this one and install it....or find a cutter to relieve the setback and install a folding bayo mount as well. We'll see.
