My 1960 Romanian
« on: September 16, 2014, 04:33:56 PM »
I know many of you have seen this before, but I figured I would be the first to share their Romanian SKS here. I picked this up off gunbroker a few months back, and currently is my favorite SKS. There are nicer examples out there, but I am happy with the purchase.
The receiver, receiver cover, trigger guard, rear sight, bolt, and bolt carrier match.
The magazine, gas tube, gas rod, and butt plate do not match. The stock that came with it did not have a serial #, and was a lot lighter in color than the hand guard. Who knows if the stock was original or not.
Here is how she arrived.

Can't tell from the picture, but the rear sight has the serial # EP'd.

After I cleaned her up, and found a cleaning rod and Romanian magazine.

I was never happy with the light colored stock, and started looking around for one since it was already not serial numbered to the rest of the gun. I found one, and here is how she currently sits.

Still love it!  Did you ever get any reasonable answer about the rectangular 01434 stamp behind the wrist on that stock?

Thanks 06, not the nicest example, but works for now.  :-[

It woudld be interesting to know what that stamp (and others) mean.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

That is a good-looker bbush! I've never seen one with all the stamps that one has. Is it just my eyes or is the Romanian a little longer like the Alby?

Yes it would, I exhausted my Web searches with no results and was hoping someone with more knowledge of Romania arms could shed some light.

Thanks Danny, longer how? The stock? I don't believe so, but will do some side by side comparison.

I may be getting delusional! It just looked a little longer than a Chinese or Russian.

Danny, here is a side by side comparison for you. I think this will show you the Romanian stock is the same length as Russian and Chinese stocks.
From Top to Bottom
55/56 Russian "Sneak"
5 Digit Chinese "Ghost"
1960 Romanian
1969 Albanian

Thanks Brian, obviously I was suffering with one of those optical "delusions"! Very nice looking line up.
