Black pistol...Glock...oh-oh, scary
I have a G30 in .45ACP (11.4mm), so small frame and big bore, not much bigger than the 10mm.
Do you like 10mm better than .45 or 9mm, or I guess the closest comparison in bore, .40?
Well technically.. this is Glock #2.. I do have a Gen 3 G31 in .357Sig..
great round
9mm bullet in a necked 10mm case.. al la a modern Tokarev round.. It's a muzzle flipping handfull..
eww.. tough one with out starting a this is better than that.. But.. since you asked
My feelings.. opinions.. bla bla.. ok
I look at it like this... the 9mm and .45acp both great rounds in their own right, both have an outstanding history and service record... but.....they are old, and yes I have and enjoy quite a few in each caliber.
Now before someone falls off the rocker..and gets pissed.. let me explain.
I think..at least in my experience the 10mm surpasses both.. when you break it down, your dealing with a round that is equal to or greater than a 357 Mag... which through history is a flat out known man stopper. It was the big dog on the block till the advent of Elmer Keiths .44 Magnum hit the scene.
From a cartridge stand point.. it gives one alot of flexiblity as well.. you can load it to equal a 9mm/.40 S&W/.45acp or you can go all in, balls out to almost approach a .41 Magnum power level, this depends purely on the pistols strength and such. Loads like Corbon can shove a 135 grain bullet at 1400fps, Buffalo Bore does a 180gr at 1350fps.. or really heavy load, 220gr at 1,200 fps, and even Winchester makes 175 Grain Silvertip "hunting" ammo.. Or on the flip side, one can get tame soft shooting 1000fps American Eagle target ammo.
In the end.. I think one ends up with a highly versatile handgun.. it's all dependent on what you want to do.. does one want to just plink paper, self defense, even deer hunt.. Compared to the 9mm, .40S&W and the .45acp... that higher velocity and bullet weight pays off down range, it's a pretty flat shooting round.. you can hit a deer at 50yrds like a .357mag. It's very common for hunters, not just to hunt with, but it's very popular in bear protection, the power of a decent sized wheel gun but with twice the capacity. The Denmark military use a G20 for polar bear protection.
The 357Sig I mentioned.. it's a souped up 9mm.. flat shooting as well..lot's of LEO's carry it. But while it has the velocity, the bullet doesn't carry the extra weight.
One round I would be willing to try in .45 is .45 Super... that is a moderized version of the .45acp.. but, there again.. you have to have a pistol that can handle the round.
