A few changes to the Russian GB listings in 2017.

As always, please discuss anything you see that doesn't quite jive with what you know or that you don't quite understand.  I've made enough mistakes in my life to not ever trust a first cut of my work and everyone was a newbie once.  If something is miscategorized or mischaracterized, by all means call it out.  You won't hurt anyone's feelings by pointing things out and getting me to correct them.  In reality, discussion is the only reason these threads exist, if there is no discussion, there is no need for these threads.

  • 614246696   NOS 1950 Russian Tula SKS w/Bayonett 7.62x39   1   $650.00    1950   Tula   As-Issued   Very Good   ФB2757   Nice one here!  Discussed at http://sks-files.com/index.php?topic=3027.0 and http://sks-files.com/index.php?topic=3028.0
  • 609678450   1952 RUSSIAN SKS TULA NON-REFURB   12   $750.00    1952   Tula   As-Issued   Good   ГH299   Nice enough gun.  Stock may have been hit with a fresh coat of finish though, those valleys all look awfully dark to me.
  • 607249735   SKS, Russian, KBI, 7.62X39; Boxed, Unfired, Acces.   40   $1,125.00    1955   Tula   As-Issued   Good   OЛ8465   Let's start with the good.  '55 with original stock.  VG+ condition.  Box and accessories a definite plus.  Now the bad.  C'mon MM Outfitters, you guys can afford 28 photos on gunbroker, but you can't take 28 (or even 1)  decent photos of this gun?!  Seriously, my 4 year old could take these exact same photos with her Fisher Price "my first" camera.  These have to be some of the most TERRIBLE photos of a firearm I've ever seen.  Blurry, dark, poor resolution, taken at ridiculous isometric angles that show NOTHING.  Not a single clear S/N in the entire bunch.  No crossbolt detail.  Ten photos of crap nobody cares anything about.  Pure horsetrash.  The fact that this thing sold for 11 Benjamins is a testament to how few '55s are truly out there.  From the horrid photos, the last one sticks out in my mind, and not in a good way.  The right side of this stock shows *very* heavy shellac brush marks in varying directions.  Maybe Ivan was having an off day, but that stock could easily have had another heavy coat of shellac applied at refurb....we may never know because there are no crossbolt stamps visible in *any* photo.  Heck, the seller didn't even include a receiver photo for that matter...

  • 614034291   Tula Russian SKS 1949R 7.62x39mm VG $99 NR   16   $461.00    1950   Tula   Refurbished   Fair   CЯ1927   Discussed extensively here: http://sks-files.com/index.php?topic=3026.0

  • 608943665   1952 Tula Russian SKS Matching numbers 7.62X39MM Russian Tula SKS ALL ORIGINAL 1952   1   $475.00    1952   Tula   Refurbished   Good   Uncertain   Horsetrash auction.

  • 610573612   Russian Tula 1953 SKS 7.62x39 NO CC FEE   2   $510.00    1953   Tula   Refurbished   Good   AB873   Some guys really like the black BBQ with an amber laminate refurb stock.  I'm not one of them.
  • 611902014   Russian SKS 1953 Tula   8   $410.00    1953   Tula   Refurbished   Good   ЛK3142   This one sold twice at the same price...

  • 611520132   1953 TULA RUSSIAN SKS   1   $450.00    1957   Tula   Refurbished   Fair   BH3262_И   What possesses someone to take an as-issued '53 stock and separate itfrom it's weapon to be able to slap it onto a black BBQ refurb '57?  With the mismatch S/N on the stock, it obviously didn't leave Russia looking like that...
  • 612544409   SKS Russian 7.62X39   1   $549.00    Uncertain   Uncertain   Refurbished   Good   TP4334   No receiver shot, no description, terrible presentation...Horsetrash.

  • 613023695   1954r Russian SKS Tula Arsenal Matching Numbers   9   $630.00    Uncertain   Uncertain   Uncertain   Uncertain   Uncertain   Craptacular auction...
  • 609869674   Russian Tula SKS Matching Serial Numbers NICE!   12   $575.00    Uncertain   Uncertain   Uncertain   Uncertain   Uncertain   Horsetrash listing.  Likely a very nice gun though, may even be as-issued.  Worth an inquiry into more photos if nothing else.

These guns added 3/7/2017:
  • 613075817   Russian SKS 7.62x39 All Matching no Bayonet   1   $399.00    1952   Tula   As-Issued   Good   ЮГ438   Likely a steal here.
  • 614553599   RUSSIAN SKS SEMI AUTO RIFLE-MATCHING-W/ SCOPE   37   $605.00    1956   Tula   Bubba   Good   TB2395_Д   Missed this gun the first time around.  How this gun finds its way into the "collectable firearms" category is beyond me.
  • 615811136   1950 Russian SKS   10   $461.00    1950   Tula   Refurbished   Good   ЗИ2081   I like the blonde Izhevsk replacement stock on this one...
  • 616342809   Russian SKS Tula 1952r   1   $500.00    1952   Tula   Refurbished   Good   ГИ1630   No liking all the lint and cat hair on this one.  Distracting! :)
  • 614173540   Nice! C&R 1952 Tula Russian SKS w/ Laminated Stock   1   $495.00    1952   Tula   Refurbished   Uncertain   Uncertain   Horrible listing.  You show a photos of the ATF recorded import S/N yet not one of the original Russian S/N for research purposes!?  C'mon man, help us out here!
  • 615501630   Russian SKS Tula 1954 all matching refurb w/ sling   1   $500.00    1954   Tula   Refurbished   Good   BB570   Missed this gun in January.  Not a bad little carbine.
  • 610619147   *COLLECTORS LOOK* RARE 1954 Russian Izhevsk SKS   19   $880.00    1954   Izhevsk   Refurbished   Good   HO661   Drago's '54 Izhevsk.  Believe it or not, this is the gun that prompted me to look more closely into what features might differentiate a '54 Izhevsk with a '54 Tula.  Pretty minimal refurb if I do say so myself, but a refurb nonetheless.
  • 606142863   Soviet Russian SKS 7.62X39 Carbine 1953 Matching   24   $690.00    1955   Tula   Refurbished   Good   Uncertain   Not the best photos.
  • 613075714   Quality Russian Laminate SKS 7.62x39 Matching   1   $598.50    Uncertain   Tula   Refurbished   Fair   Uncertain   Some type of letter gun here, hell if I can tell which suffix though.

Has anyone seen that strange squared mark on the left lower hand guard (photo#5) on any other Ruski SKSs?  Is it some kind of inspection mark or does it have some other significance?

I just looked through *many* hundred photos of that area on other guns and didn't see it again.  It appears to be double struck and isn't really that clear.

There are some squared П's stamped on stocks, but that mark seems to have three characters in it.  Possibly K over Г Г (if the stamp is upside down).
May also be some type of variation of the TK stamp as well.

Yes, it does look double struck, but I cannot enlarge it enough to get a good read on it.  I don't have it on any of my Russians.  Guess it's something else to keep an eye out for and maybe it's meaning will eventually come to light.

Thanks for checking!! thumb1

Ok, I stumbled onto this one today while looking for something else.  Unknown year (post '52), S/N ЛK4085

Not sure it's the same as one shown in the auction (attached below) as they are both not the best photos, but certainly similar I'd say...

This is on one of my Russian stocks, off an IC Chinese. I cant tell if the marks are the same, however the are the same basic design and location.

Any suggestions on getting it to appear?

Could you put a piece of paper over the stamp and take a pencil and scribble to show the indent?

Had no luck with pencil/paper, I'm not CSI enough I guess...but a gas station thermal paper receipt rubbed hard with a finger nail showed some detail. :)

Looks like a 1-2, then something with a / and maybe a Cyrillic П

There's a stamp on my 1954 Izhevsk that looks like that. It's a partial strike, same dimensions...but on the receiver round below the RSB:

Interesting that it is on the same section of the stock, but not on all carbines.  Did the armories contract out the woodwork for some and this is the wood shop's mark?

Here's another one I just found.  '54 Tula, as-issued with perhaps an extra slathering of shellac at some point.  Very much like Carbine's stamp, though I see K over B-1 (or Б-1) on this one (shouldn't be an S as there is no S in Cyrillic.)

FirearmsInPhoenix over at gunboards just posted this one.  Awesome photo:

Looks to clearly be a boxed K over 8-1.  thumb1

Same as Carbines and my photos, but clearly different than GM and his oddball "boxed 1-2 over something"  thumb1
